If you receive a notification that you have an Unidentified Lead, it means a contact could not be sorted into a Lead Type automatically. This guide explains why it happens and how to correct it so the lead flows into the right pipeline and nurture.
The contact could not be identified as one of your Lead Types (for example, Surgical or Non-Surgical). This usually happens when the contact's Treatment of Interest is not mapped in the Lead Type Assignment workflow.
The Lead Type Assignment workflow sets the Lead Type based on the value in the Treatment of Interest field. Every Treatment of Interest custom field answer must be configured in the workflow for it to work correctly. Once the Lead Type is assigned, the workflow routes the lead to the specified user, creates the opportunity in the correct pipeline, and enrolls the contact in the matching lead nurture workflow.
Confirm the contact's Treatment of Interest. Go to Contacts, search for the contact, and view the contact details for the Treatment of Interest value.
Locate the Lead Type Assignment workflow under Marketing, then Workflows, then Lead Type Assignment Workflow.
Update the Lead Type Assignment workflow:
Click the condition action in the workflow labeled "Surgical or Non-Surgical?"
Based on the missing Treatment of Interest value's procedure type, add it to the proper branch (Surgical or Non-Surgical).
Add a segment using OR.
Select Contact Details, then Treatment of Interest.
Select the operator "Is."
Select the missing Treatment of Interest value.
Save the workflow.
Manually enroll the contact in the lead nurture workflow by applying the tag "Manual." This re-enters the contact into the Lead Type Assignment workflow for opportunity creation, then moves them into the proper lead nurture workflow for the automated SMS and email drip.
For more on building and editing workflows, see the Workflows collection.
Why did I get an Unidentified Lead notification? The contact could not be assigned a Lead Type because their Treatment of Interest value is not mapped in the Lead Type Assignment workflow.
How do I stop a lead from being flagged as unidentified? Add the missing Treatment of Interest value to the correct branch of the "Surgical or Non-Surgical?" condition in the Lead Type Assignment workflow, then save. Make sure every Treatment of Interest answer is configured.
How do I get an already-flagged contact into the right nurture? After updating the workflow, apply the tag "Manual" to the contact. This re-enrolls them in the Lead Type Assignment workflow so the opportunity is created and they enter the correct lead nurture.
