Image and Video Guidelines for Social Posts

Reference of image formats, video specs, character limits, aspect ratios, and posting rate limits for every social network supported by the Aesthetix CRM Social Planner.

Every social network has its own rules for image formats, video length, file size, aspect ratio, and how much text a caption can hold. When you post to several networks at once from the Aesthetix CRM Social Planner, the post has to satisfy the strictest requirement of each network it is going to. This reference lists the current specifications per platform so you can size and format your media correctly before you schedule.

A few notes before the tables:

  • Recommended image sizes: if you are unsure which size to use, these two work well across most networks. Landscape (horizontal): 1,024 x 512 pixels. Portrait (vertical): 800 x 1,200 pixels.

  • Multimedia posts: some networks let you post images and videos together in a single post. This is noted in the Additional Guidelines table below.

  • OG meta link: this is the link preview card generated from a shared URL. It is available on all networks except Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

  • Auto-optimization: the Social Planner can automatically resize and reformat images to meet many of these requirements. See the separate guide on auto-optimizing images. Video is not auto-optimized, so it must meet the specs below before you schedule.

Posting rate limits

Each network limits how many posts a single connected account can publish in a given window. These limits are set by the platforms, not by Aesthetix CRM, and apply per active user:

  • Google: 100 posts / 24 hours

  • Facebook: 200 posts / 1 hour

  • Facebook Reels: 30 posts / 24 hours

  • Instagram: 25 posts / 24 hours

  • LinkedIn: 200 posts / 24 hours

  • TikTok: 15 posts / 24 hours

  • YouTube: 25 posts / 24 hours

  • YouTube (global): 2,000 posts / 24 hours

  • Pinterest: 25 posts / 5 minutes

The OG meta tag (link preview) is available on all networks except Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

A note on patient photos

Many of these posts will feature treatment photos. Before-and-after images, patient portraits, or any image that could identify a patient must not be posted without documented written consent on file. A consent form for treatment does not by itself authorize social media use, so confirm the patient has agreed to public posting specifically. When in doubt, use a stock or generated image instead of a real patient photo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my image get rejected when posting to Instagram but not Facebook? Each network enforces different rules. Instagram requires an aspect ratio between 4:5 and 1.91:1, while Facebook accepts any ratio. When you post to both at once, the image must meet Instagram's stricter requirement.

What image formats are the safest to use everywhere? JPEG and PNG are accepted on nearly every network. GIF, WEBP, BMP, TIFF, and SVG are only supported on some, so use JPEG or PNG when posting to multiple platforms.

Why can't I add a caption to my Instagram Story? Instagram Stories have a 0-character caption limit, so text captions are not supported. Add any text as an overlay on the image or video itself.

Can I post an image and a video in the same post? Only on networks that support multimedia posts, which currently include Instagram Post, Threads, and Community. On all others, a post can contain images or videos, but not both together.

How long can my videos be? It varies widely by network. Facebook Posts allow up to 240 minutes and YouTube up to 12 hours, while TikTok Personal caps at 180 seconds and Facebook Reels and Instagram Stories at 60 to 90 seconds. Check the video table for the exact limit.

What is the OG meta link and where does it work? It is the link preview card generated when you share a URL. It appears on all networks except Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

Why did my post fail after I hit a certain number of posts? You likely reached a platform rate limit. Each network limits posts per active user in a set window (for example, TikTok allows 15 posts per 24 hours). Wait for the window to reset and try again.

Do these limits ever change? Yes. The social networks update their own requirements periodically, so file sizes, durations, and rate limits can shift. Use this article as your current reference and confirm against the network if a post is rejected unexpectedly.
